Philosophy in Detail

At DBIS our school philosophy is all about what we strive for and how we hope to go about it. A key for us is the provision of a warm and caring learning environment, partnered with meaningful learning experiences that help our students travel on their learning journey, celebrating their individual and collective successes along the way.

We will have an open and warm environment in which:

  • We recognise every student as unique and that every student has valued contributions to be expressed.

  • We provide stimulating and challenging learning environments for all Kindergarten, Primary and Secondary students inside their classrooms and beyond.

  • We foster close involvement between home and school in developing a partnership for successful learning.

  • We provide a welcoming, secure and attractive school environment that is maintained to a high standard by staff, students and parents.

  • Students and staff display pride in our school, our achievements and our community.

  • We practise our school's golden rule to encourage self discipline and social skills through courtesy, cooperation and consideration.

  • We foster an environment that promotes respect, the valuing of ideas, efforts and the joy of learning.

We will provide effective learning opportunities for every student by:

  • Identifying high expectations in achievement, where students are aware of and involved in the processes of learning.

  • Regularly assessing and evaluating each student's progress and achievement to ensure their learning needs are being met and that they are achieving to the best of their ability.

  • Implementing our curriculum with care to establish a consistent and coordinated approach to teaching and learning in our school.

  • Ensuring effective, informed and differentiated programmes of work are developed to meet the individual needs of our students throughout our school.

  • Encouraging a variety of approaches to learning and teaching that are accompanied by the provision of quality materials and resources.

  • Providing effective and timely opportunities for staff to professionally develop, strengthening the learning opportunities provided for our students.

  • Encouraging independence, initiative, curiosity, self worth and responsibility as our students develop into life long learners.

  • Encouraging our students to strive to do their best in an environment that promotes consistent and coordinated standards throughout our school.

  • Reflecting a uniquely multi cultural environment in line with our place in today's global society.
