A week in the life of DBIS
DBIS is truly a fantastic school, and this was again illustrated for me when evaluating our recent scholarship applications.
The task of awarding the scholarships for next year has been harder than ever as all forty applicants are worthy of recognition and praise. However following much deliberation, it gives me great pleasure to announce the recipients of the 2017-2018 scholarships as follows:
Dillon Noonan and Layla Leschinsky – Overall Achievement Scholarship
Ailie Ikeda, Finn and Darcy Jurecka – Sport Scholarship
Reese Acorn – Creative Arts Scholarship
I know you will want to join me in congratulating our worthy recipients for their outstanding achievement and significant contributions to the life of the school.
I also wanted to acknowledge the fantastic effort of our Secondary Battle of The Books Team who qualified for the final of this prestigious Hong Kong wide competition at the German Swiss International Swiss School later this month. Team members, Reese Acorn, Rachel Hemmings, Savannah Floyd, Jessica Hudgins, Ferdinand Rocher, Ashley Wilson, Ellie Lambert, Yashita Yogesh and Becky Tilbrook demonstrated an excellent level of knowledge when defeating Discovery College, Island School, YMCA, Harbour School and St Paul’s School in the semi-final.
Equally, our U12 boys football teams deserve a mention this week as both teams beat Discovery College on Tuesday in two exciting matches. The A team won 2-0 and the B team 5-2. It is now four games played and four games won for the U12s.
Finally, I wanted to make the school community aware of the impact of these summer’s significant renovations. You will remember from previous communications that during the summer holiday we will be renovating and expanding the library, creating four new classrooms, relaying the Astroturf on the pitch, replacing the floodlights on the pitch, completing the installation of the pool’s heating system, building a new Early Years playground and of course, setting up our new Senior School Centre in the North Plaza. As a consequence of this extensive programme, we will be closing the school library from June 2, and the school pitch and Globe Theatre will be closed to the wider community during the summer holiday. If you have any questions about the above, please don’t hesitate to contact my colleague, Mr. Ben Loran or me.
Best wishes for the weekend ahead.
