What's Been Happening in Year 1
It has been such a busy few weeks for all of DBIS but especially Year 1.
After a great deal of hard work and perseverance by everyone, we were so proud to present our show to you last Wednesday. We all worked exceptionally hard to learn our lines and stage directions and hope you will agree with us when we say that it was an excellent show case of weeks of hard work and dedication. We like to say a massive thank you to all the parents who helped out with costumes, make up, set and backdrop. We all think you did an awesome job so 'thank you.'
Since the show we have been getting back in to the swing of things with our writing lessons. We have been thinking about characters and settings in fictional stories and are all looking forward to writing some stories in the next few weeks. We have been focussing on using adjectives and openers in our writing as well as capital letters, full stops and fingers spaces, not forgetting our beautiful handwriting.
Our maths lessons have been encouraging us to solve addition and subtraction word problems, as well as practicing using a number of different strategies and resources to solve these problems. Some of the things we have been using are 100 squares, number lines and partitioning numbers. We have also been learning how to solve addition and subtraction sums at speed.
Now that we have finished our show we will be regaining our focus on the Super Sturdy Structures enquiry topic. We have really enjoyed looking at all the structures you found during the holidays and are excited to find out about more structures around us and the wider world.
We are also excited about swimming starting again this week. Parents, please remember to read the notices regarding correct kit and days, which you will find on your child's notice boards outside their classrooms.
Finally, another massive 'thank you' and 'well done' to everyone involved in the Year 1 Show. The children were amazing and should be exceptionally proud of their efforts and achievements. It was great to see everyone joining in with such enthusiasm and enjoyment.
