A week in the life of DBIS
I continue to be in awe of our students’ commitment, talent and determination to try new things. I am also very grateful to all the staff and parents who provide such a wide variety of exceptional learning opportunities for our students in all phases of the school.
The current Y5 Show is a perfect example of the DBIS “can do spirit” in action. Congratulations to everyone involved in the fantastic Y5 Show this week. It’s been brilliant to see the children singing, dancing, acting and telling jokes as they perform “Aladdin Trouble” with such enthusiasm and enjoyment. Thank you to all the staff and parents for their hard work in supporting the children to succeed and to have fun.
As we hurtle towards the end of the first term, an enormous amount of excellent learning in different contexts is also taking place across the school. This week’s highlights have included highly successful sporting events such as the Junior Swim Championships, U11 Netball Tournament and U11 Girls Football Tournament, the conclusion of Y11 Mock Examinations and preparations for Carols on the Pitch.
Tomorrow we also welcome back Professor Peter Sullivan from Monash University to DBIS. Professor Sullivan will be working with our Secondary Mathematics teachers and students as they explore different approaches to learning in Mathematics lessons. Y6 Mathematics teachers will also have an opportunity to revisit their professional learning during the visit.
I am delighted to make you aware that the hand made crochet poppy appeal raised an incredible $19,759 for the Royal British Legion. Thank you to everyone who donated to the cause and congratulations to Alex Parsons, Jemma Parsons, Oliver McLean, Angus McLean, Morgan McLean, Sarah McLean and Samantha Murray on the staggering success of the appeal.
Finally, can I make another appeal to all parents regarding the school’s expectation regarding school uniform. It is essential that the school has the highest expectations of our students in all aspects of school life including pride in their uniform. With this in mind, I would be grateful if you could reiterate to your child the importance of wearing the correct uniform and shoes at all times at school.
Best wishes for the weekend ahead.
