What's Been Happening in Year 1
Happy New Year everyone and welcome back. We hope you all had a lovely Christmas break and enjoyed spending time together with family and friends.
We start this term with a new Discovery Unit, The Stories People Tell. In this unit we will be exposing the children to a variety of learning experiences which will help further their understanding of the concepts of Culture, Creating and Expressing. We are also getting very excited about our theatre trip to see The Ugly Duckling in a few weeks time.
Lots of us in Year 1 have spent the first few days of this week recalling our adventures from the Christmas break. We are all getting so much better at writing in full sentences using full stops, capital letters and finger spaces. Some of us are even using adjectives and conjunctions to make our writing even more interesting.
In our maths lessons we are continuing with skip counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s as well as recapping our number bonds, odd and even numbers and shape names. We will be continuing to learn different addition and subtraction strategies which will help us to recall number facts at speed and with accuracy.
Next week we will be taking part in our Year 1 and 2 Sports Day. This will be an exciting day where we will be able to try new activities and show our friends and parents how we can work together in teams as well as show good sportsmanship.
