A week in the life of DBIS

Head of School

"Dydd Gwyl Dewi Hapus" or Happy St David’s Day to you all!

It has been a busy few days back at school with various events taking place across all three campuses. It has been fantastic to see our Secondary students “hit the ground running” with excellent levels of participation during Tuesday’s Sports Day and the Year 9 Humanities/Mathematics enquiry taking place at the Po Lin Monastery. Today, the school’s North East Asian Mathematics Competition (NEMAC) team departed for South Korea. I know you will want to join me in extending best wishes to Cynthia Aarons, Lucie Destexhe, Frederick Fung, Callum Henderson, Brandon Fung, Parker Thompson, Anthony Verweij, Ashley Wilson and Micah Zirkelbach as they represent the Secondary School in this prestigious event.
During our school closure day on Monday, 26 February, staff were involved in a series of professional development workshops with a focus on “developing the whole child”. Members of our Inclusion Department organised a series of workshops which included outside experts such as Dr Mark Gandolfi of St John’s Counselling Service and the child psychologist, John Shanahan. Feedback from the sessions has been very positive, and I am very grateful to my colleagues Carol Chapman and Graham Lewis for leading the day.
The school’s first-ever RockMob video is ready to be released to the world. We hope you enjoy the school community’s rendition of “Song 2” by Blur which will be released at midday on Friday, 2 March. Please share the YouTube link ( with your friends and family, across the world. We hope to spread awareness of the RockMob project and the School by gathering as many views of the video on YouTube as possible.
Finally, I am delighted to make you aware that we are now accepting applications for the School’s Scholarship programme for 2018-2019.  You will be aware that we introduced this programme in 2015 and there have been 12 outstanding recipients during the last three years.
