Nursery - Seaside

φανταστική ημέρα What a fantastic day!
Our Greek Style Kindergarten Exit Point for the IPC Unit, Olympics was a huge success for all our students and staff. The children were in mixed groups and enthusiastically took part in so many learning experiences, including: Greek dancing, face paints, Greek warrior relay races, wreath and torch making and listening to Greek myth stories. Part way through the morning we could relax and enjoy tasting delicious Greek snacks (feta cheese, pita bread, olives and hummus). The day was made extra special and brought to life by the staff and students being dressed in Greek outfits and it was wonderful to see all our Seaside friends here today sharing in the fun together.
Thank you to all the parents and helpers for supporting this event and for putting so much effort into the outfits. Despite the heavy rain our students came to school eager and ready for a day in Ancient Greece.
Kind regards
Misan and Deirdre

With warm regards

What's going on in Nursery - Seaside?

Our next IPC unit is Sand and Water -information coming shortly.

 Free Flow Play

For part of the Nursery session the students are now able to explore and play in other classrooms and take part in Olympic activities in the playground.  This has extended the play opportunities for our students and enabled them to socialise with children from other classes and hopefully make some new friends.  Each day the children are becoming more confident to explore further afield and before long they will be safe and secure in all play areas and with all the Nursery team.

RWI

We have now begun our phonics programme, RWI.  We have introduced the children to Fred the frog, who helps us to sound out words and we have learnt some of the strategies that are used throughout the whole programme; why not ask your child about, 1, 2, up and my turn, your turn.  During the rest of the term the children will be introduced to a 'sound a week', which will be displayed on the noticeboard and we begin with 'm’, just in time for Mother's Day, after which, we will be learning, a s d t i n and p. We have been having lots of fun during Show and Tell time trying to sound out the name of our Show and Tell item and talk like Fred; by doing this the children are developing the skills of blending and segmenting words in a fun and meaningful way, such skills are just as important as learning to recognise and write the sounds.

Warm regards
