What's going on in Primary School ICT?

A busy first term over and now we are welcoming in the New Year.  Our students have been involved in many ICT projects ranging from Year Ones studying Data Handling, how we gather information and present our findings, through to Year Six researching, collating, presenting, and publishing online.
Year 1 have been controlling their Beebots,  a programmable device, and enjoyed giving their "Turtles" on screen commands to draw mathematical shapes. Our Year 2's, who are very capable statisticians, gathered data and recorded it in their " All About Me" database.  They were pleased to discover that for Year 2 students, the most popular method of getting to and from school is by walking.

A Sound and Music project enabled Year 3 students to combine audio recordings with images to produce audio books for junior students.

Year 4 has researched the most effective search engines on the Internet. Their brief was to evaluate a series of commonly used search engines, the most useful ones for researching as well as the most child friendly. As a result the top five are provided as links on the front page of DBIS Moodle. http://moodle.dbis.edu.hk/

Digital Research was the focus for Year 5, developing guidelines for DBIS students, on Digital Citizenship.  They chose the most appropriate tool to publish their work in an online format, ranging from posters, and Google presentation to interactive multimedia presentations.  Years 4, 5 and 6 have used Google Apps and Moodle as their main online tools for their projects.

We are currently planning a Gallery Page to showcase some of the wonderful examples of the students endeavors, so don’t forget to  “Watch this Space”.
