Reception - Airport

Our new topic is Going Places. Please remember next week is Green Week. On Friday 10 February we will meet in the Plaza at 8:50am outside Uncle Russ to have a 3 R's parade. Also on this day there will be a competition for the class with the least rubbish from lunch boxes so please ensure your child's lunch is as package free as possible.
What's going on in Reception - Airport?
It does not feel like we have only been back a week....Airport class have already been to Thailand, Japan, England the North Pole and searched Hong Kong from top to bottom using every mode of transport available.
Our new topic is Going Places and as you can see we have been extremely busy going places in our imaginations. Our role-play area has transformed into an Airport and the children have been busy trying out all the roles from check-in to pilot and air steward to plane mechanic. It's been very insightful seeing the children play in the Airport, they must have had very interesting experiences of airports if their play is anything to go by.
On Monday we went for a journey choosing the countries we would visit and how we would get there. Some of us flew to Egypt, some of us swam to Thailand and all of us climbed mountains in England. It was a wonderful journey that took us far and wide.
Mid-week we had a big class discussion: 'Are pets allowed on aeroplanes?' We eventually made the decision that small animals could travel in the cabin if they could fit under the passengers seat. We all have our own passport and we're enjoying collecting stamps when we fly to different places and some of us have decided we need passports for our pets too.
In RWi Miss Coote has been listening to of all us so she knows what we need to learn next. We will be in new groups from next Wednesday. Miss Coote was really impressed with how many sounds we all know and how well we are reading words.
In PSRN we have been learning how to take away. We have been finding one less than numbers to 20 and learning how to find the answer when objects have been taken away.
We have packed cases, painted vehicles and read lots of books about different countries and vehicles. It has been a wonderful week of learning and we're excited about what next week will bring.
