What's going on in Reception - Garden?

18/05/12

This week we have been finishing our topic "The Olympics." We have been learning about mascots and about a selection of countries related to the Olympics. We learned about China as it was the host country of the 2008 Olympics, we learned about Great Britain as it is the host country of the 2012 Olympics and we learned about Greece as it was the first country to hold the Olympics. During the week each person worked as part of a team to create a mascot for either Greece, Great Britian or China. We had to negotiate ideas and work together to create a mascot that we liked.

We all had a fantasic time during our Ancient Greek Olympics on Friday morning. We were able to take part in a wide range of activties including flag making,  racing while wearing armour, Greek dancing, Greek food tasting and face painting.

In our Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy work we have been consolidating our knowledge of subtraction. We did this by playing games, counting and then taking away objects to find how many are left, counting backwards and by using number fans and number lines.

Next week we will be starting our new topic "Treasure".

On Tuesday morning we have been invited to watch the Year 3 show "Aladdin" at the Primary School.  We will be meeting at 8:50am in the playground outside the Globe to ensure that we are registered and seated ready for the show to begin at 9:00am.
