All Secondary students attend PSHCE once a week.
Year 7 have completed several units so far - Personal Relationships, Learning to Learn, Physical and Emotional Health, Smoking and Alcohol.
Their books are crammed full of colourful and interesting information displayed in a range of formats.
Now that we are well into 2012 we are going to take a look at some global issues - most importantly the place of recycling in today's society.
Later in the year we will be working on economic wellbeing and financial capability. If you would like to come in and talk to the Y7 students about any of these topics please contact Linda Pryce at the Secondary School.
All classes from Year 8 - 10 are completing their sexual education units. The class discussions and questioning over the past month has been valuable for all concerned. With end of topic tests having been recently completed, students are now aware of their progression in the subject thus far. Note taking, knowledge acquisition, and importantly contributing to class discussions and developing critical thinking skills are essential for improvement.
PSHCE is all about critical thinking and discussion. Bring your thinking caps and be prepared to contribute your fabulous ideas!
So...
Let's cut to the chase and answer the question on everybody's mind: What does PSHCE stand for?
Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education.
What's it all about? Well, the curriculum was implemented in late 2008 and is a compulsory part of a lot of school curricula . PSHCE is expected to become compulsory for all students in 2011. Personal, social, health and citizenship education brings together personal, social and health education, work-related learning, careers, enterprise and financial capability.
