Daniel Philo
Kung Hei Fat Choi to everyone. Everyone here at DBIS wishes you all a very happy year of the dragon!
This term ahead allows our students to extend their knowledge and understanding in a vast array of concepts within the different subjects in our curriculum. We also have some exciting events that will provide the opportunity for the students to apply what they have learnt and celebrate their own and each other's successes.
Within English, the major focus is on Arguments and Persuasive Writing. We will be exploring what an argument and debate are and how opinions can be expressed using persuasive language and supported with facts and evidence. This work is in preparation for our Year 6 Speech Competition which is one of the major events of our academic calendar and one that has produced sensational entries in the past.
Our Focus within I.P.C at this time is 'Making the News'. We are exploring the history of communication methods, how the news is produced and its impact upon our lives. This of course, is an incredibly relevant topic when we analyse what is happening in the world at this time and so you can support your child's studies by watching and examining different methods of news delivery, such as newspapers and television broadcasts.
Term 2 also means Green Week and as we have in previous years, we will be raising awareness of the issues surrounding our local and world environments and the positive impact that we can each have in protecting them for future generations. Our motto of 'Reduce, Reuse and Recycle' is a constant reminder of what can be done when we all work together.
As you can see, we have another busy and exciting term ahead. Thank you for your continued support in our endeavours as the students strive to fulfil their potential and achieve all that they can!

Mr Philo.
Class wiki - Our class wiki is a source of lots of information both for the students and the parents of Y6DP and I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to use it on a daily basis so that you are aware of the homework that has been set and the day on which it is required. The address of the wiki is, http://y6dpmrphilo.wikispaces.com/ There is also lots of information to inform you of what is being taught in Year 6, helpful websites and activities for you to use at home and the important upcoming events.
I will be updating it regularly and so I would like to invite our class members to find and tell me of any fantastic websites that you discover so that we add them to the wiki and we can all use them!
