Year 6 - Y6HS

Holly Seirinakis

Welcome to Term 2 and 2012! We are off and running this term starting with the Chinese New Year celebrations, Green Week, various Athletics events, Gecko Maths, Y6 Speech Competition and Book Week, all before the Easter break!

In IPC we are well into our 'Making the News - current affairs' unit and the children are busy finding out all about the news in Hong Kong and further afield. They have created their own school news shows and newspaper reports from the day they were born.

In Writing we are focusing on 'Stories with Flashbacks' , using The Piano by Aiden Gibbons as our stimulous. The Speech Competition is soon upon us and so many of our Writing sessions will be given over to considering some debatable issues and preparing a speech for the competition.

The children have been busy responding to their group novels in Reading using Moodle. Twice a week they have to choose a response role and comment on the relevant discussion forum within their group. There has been some excellent work produced on these pages and it enables them to see how others in the group are responding to the same text.

In Maths the focus is on Shape and Space, Measures and Symmetry. There will also be time spent on Problem-solving which is a vital skill needed for the SATS in May.

So another packed term ahead, don't forget to check out our Moodle page to see any important notices.
