Information & Communications Technology

A comprehensive information and communications technology (ICT) curriculum with a combined focus on skill development, coaching support and opportunities to apply learned skills in meaningful contexts.

Overview

Teaching and learning with information and communication technology is an expected and necessary part of today's education.  As a school we have a responsibility to provide the best of learning opportunities to support our students in their information and communications technology (ICT) skill development and the application of these skills.

To ensure we are able to support this goal our classrooms are all equipped with computers, a scanner and an electronic white board.  In addition to our classroom provision we have three computer suites and a multi media studio.  One suite located at our Kindergarten campus and the others within our Discovery Centre for Primary and Secondary access.  Each computer suite is well equipped to meet all the technological demands of our curriculum.  Our multi media suite is a specialised centre containing high end computer technology and media equipment to support our media studies programmes of learning.

Our teachers are supported by way of ongoing professional development and in house support.  In addition to this we have extremely talented ICT teachers who plan, coordinate and administer specialist lessons to all classes and in class coaching support for teachers and students.

Kindergarten

Our focus on teaching and learning with ICT begins within our Kindergarten through the provision of fun learning activities to strengthen mouse control, develop keyboard use and screen navigation capacities and to provide our students with ICT related challenges to assist them in developing their knowledge and application base.

Primary

Our Primary curriculum is drawn from the National Curriculum of England.  We have identified a key set of skills our students need to have in place in order to operate independently in an ICT environment.  These skill sets change and adjust according to our identified student needs and levels of achievement.  Our Primary students are provided with weekly specialist lessons and in class coaching support along with further access to our computer suites with their classroom teacher to allow them to apply the skills they have been learning within their current context of classroom study. Secondary

Our Secondary School ICT focus builds on the skills developed during the Primary School years.  At a Secondary level we believe there should still be scope for students to extend their skill base, to extend into specialised areas of ICT application and to draw on DMC resources to support general programmes of study.  Students within our Secondary School are provided with specialised ICT lessons along with classroom access to laptop technologies within a managed environment.  Please click on the link below to view the curriculum content in detail.

E-Safety

Our school philosophy with regard e- safety is one that promotes wise and considered use. The online resources and applications available today add a wealth of richness and complexity to student learning. Our programmes of e-safety encourage students to think carefully, respect others, communicate with care and to look for the positive applications of the resources available to them.

We aim to develop digital citizenship amongst our students through the provision / promotion of:

  • Digital access
  • Opportunities to develop digital literacy (knowledge of and wise application of technology within their learning)
  • Opportunities to communicate digitally to support their areas of study
  • Digital security and safety - whereby we take precautions to address issues of e-safety
  • Lessons addressing digital etiquette to establish electronic standards of conduct or procedure
  • An understanding of everyones digital rights and responsibilities
