Dear Parents
Discovery Bay International School – Secondary School: Thank you to everyone who made it along to our Secondary School presentation last evening – and a special thank you to Mr Andy Edwards for the presentation. It was a pleasure to share our developing plans and respond to a number of your questions. Please continue to ask any questions you may have concerning our DBIS Secondary School – Andy Edwards and other members of our Senior Leadership Team are very happy to meet with you.
We will be holding another discussion evening around 22 – 24 March. This will provide you with a further update of our developments, along with the opportunity to introduce our new Head of Key Stage 3 and 4, as well as other Secondary School staff members.
Book week – Pyjama Night at Kindergarten – Book Character Dress Up: Thank you all for your assistance and support at home for our Bookweek. I am looking forward to our Pyjama stories at Kindergarten this evening from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm! A reminder that we will be having our Book Character Dress Up Day for our Kindergarten and Primary School students tomorrow, Friday 29 January.
Dress Up for Chinese New Year: We will once again celebrate Chinese New Year (CNY) with a dress up day in Chinese costume. The date for our CNY dress up will be Friday 12 February, the day we break for the Chinese New Year holiday.
Flower Market: Our annual DBIS Flower Market will be held on the morning of Friday, 5 February, starting at 7:30 am. We look forward to seeing you early in the morning to select from the beautiful range of flowers being made available.
Wallabies House - Pizza and DVD Lunchtime: Our winning Primary School House for last term was Wallabies. There will be a special prize for all students in Wallabies this Monday, 1 February. Pizza, a fruit juice followed by a DVD in the hall will be provided to all students in Wallabies House. Teachers have reminded our Wallaby students. Margherita and Pepperoni Pizza will be available.
Hockey: The last 2 weeks have been busy for DBIS hockey. In total, 7 teams have performed in tournaments at HKFC and at Kai Tak. The early morning sessions with staff coaches and professional player Mark Kake have paid dividends with all teams performing to a high standard. The results this year have been consistently strong across all age levels.
Highlights
Under 12 A: Won the gold medal at both tournaments, beating GSIS on both occasions.
Under 12 B: A balanced win/loss record, and valuable experience gained.
Under 10 A: Winners of the Plate at HKFC and bronze medal winners on goal difference at Kai Tak.
Under 10 B: Beaten finalists against DBIS A in the plate at HKFC and 4th place in division 2 at Kai Tak
Under 10 C: The development team gained valuable experience at HKFC, winning two games.
Under 8 A: Winners of the plate competition at HKFC, 5th place at Kai Tak.
Under 8 B: A balanced win/loss ratio, and valuable experience gained.
Thank you to all coaches and supporters for your time and enthusiasm. The next hockey tournament is on 7 March at Kowloon Cricket Club. Kind regards - Matt Corbett (Thank you also to Matt Corbett)
Students on Site After School: A gentle reminder to ensure that all students depart for home immediately after school unless they are involved in any of our extra curricular activities. If helpers are looking after any children – they need to take them home as well. We are unsure as to who is actually being supervised after school. Our staff members are unable to provide any playground supervision after school as they have a range of other professional commitments. Thank you for your understanding regarding this safety issue.
Student Safety: We have been alerted to an issue where a small number of children / teenagers have been climbing the school buildings to run around on the roofs during evenings and weekends. This is an extremely dangerous practice. We are looking to minimise any access points onto our roofs other than those required for emergency access and ask parents to work with us in reinforcing safe and sensible play practices. We will also be instructing our security staff to call the police in such instances.
Kind Regards
Grant Ramsay
Principal
