Dear Parents
International Food Fair: Thank you once again for such outstanding support for our 21st International Food Fair. It was a wonderful community day out – and to that end alone, made all of the efforts of our Friends of the School Food Fair committee, food stall volunteers, parent helpers, commercial stall holders, staff and students extremely worthwhile.
What are you going to do this Christmas?: After our successful Summer Programme we will be running a week long morning programme during the Christmas holidays (14-18 Dec). We know that not every child wants to do the same thing all the time, so we have put together a multi-disciplinary programme for 5 - 8 year olds to meet their varied interests. Please read the attached flier for more information and complete the application form to register. There are limited places and as such, full payment at the DBIS Primary and Secondary Office will secure a place.
Jeri Telstar Writing Competition: Earlier this term a large number of our students participated in a Hong Kong wide writing competition. All entries were of a high standard and have been acknowledged by the competition organisers. Very special congratulations are extended to Charlotte Cullinane (Year 5). Charlotte has been awarded a honourable mention for her entry – a super achievement!
DBIS Football Tournament: Our school held the Discovery Bay International School Football tournament at KGV School last Saturday. We had two teams entered. Both teams competed superbly on the day. The B team missed the semi finals by one point while our A team went on to win the final against Peak School. Thank you to the parents who supported our teams on the day and to our coaches, Jason Edwards and Matt Corbett. An extra special thank you to Gill Hadley and your team for your usual high quality organisation and management of this highly successful tournament.
Nursery and Reception Christmas Concerts: These major events for our Kindergarten students are getting set to take place very soon. Our Reception concert is to be held in The Globe at our Primary and Secondary site on Friday 4 December. The Nursery Christmas concerts are held in the Kindergarten, on either Tuesday 8 December or Wednesday 9 December. Please check with you child’s teacher for the starting times.
School Camps: We have a busy time at present with our Year 5 classes away on camp at Sai Kung. On Friday our Year 7 and Year 8 classes depart for their respective camps in Maekok and by the Chao River in Thailand. Thank you to all of our Year 5 and Secondary parents for your support with these major excursions.
Carols By Candlelight: Please remember to come along on Tuesday 8 December to The Globe for our annual Carols by Candlelight. We have Christmas cheer available from 5:30 pm. The carols will start at 6:00 pm and conclude at 6:30 pm. This is a special family evening on our school calendar hosted by our Friends of the School, our school staff and one of our school choirs.
Reports: The end of term reports for Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3 students will be given out on the last day of this term, Friday 11 December. Reports for Years 4 through to 8 will be provided early in Term 2.
End of Term One: A reminder that we will close for this term on Friday 11 December. All classes will finish at their normal times, with the exception of Starlight Nursery. Starlight Nursery will join Sunflower for the morning on the last day and finish for the term at 12:00 pm.
Year 7 & 8 trip to see Sweeney Todd: Our Year 7 and 8 classes travelled to see the Hong Kong Youth Arts Foundation musical based on the 19th century legend of Sweeney Todd, the Barber of Fleet Street. Our students were extremely well behaved ambassadors for our school and not only had a chance to soak up the atmosphere of live theatre, but also saw many ex DBIS students performing on the stage.
Health Reminder: Can you please remind your children once again about the need to careful personal hygiene? According to the Centre for Health Protection, we are now at the peak of the viral gastroenteritis period. Please remind your children about washing hands after going to the toilet. They also need to wash their hands prior to eating snacks and lunch. The hand cleaner dispensers are also available around our buildings. Remind all children not to drink from the fountains – they are for drink bottle refill only. These reminders are also being emphasised in class by your child’s teachers.
Happy Thanksgiving: A special Happy Thanksgiving today to all of our families from the United States of America!
Kind Regards
Grant Ramsay
Principal
