“Why Music Matters” by Doug Goodkin: On Tuesday 1 March, 7.30-9pm Discovery College Performing Arts Theatre will be hosting a presentation by the world renowned music educator Doug Goodkin. Doug is an Orff Shulwerk expert, which is a dynamic approach to music education. He is based in San Francisco but is in high demand worldwide as a music education workshop leader and artist in residence. He spends much of his time each year travelling around the world spreading his passion for music and his dynamic and inspirational approach to music education. He is also the successful author of a number of books and has released numerous CDs on both music education and contemporary pedagogical perspectives.
Doug will be addressing the important issue of ‘Why Music Matters’. He will delve into the important role music lessons play in a child’s development and the significance of music in the overall school curriculum. This is a ‘don’t miss’ opportunity for parents, teachers and school administrators to gain a deeper understanding of the significance of music in a child’s life, and a chance to discuss this important issue with one of the leading music educators in the world today.

PALS Day: On Sunday 20th February, the animal society PALS (Protection of Animals Lantau South) will be holding another of its successful animal adoption days at the Gazebo if the DBIS car park. The event runs from 12 – 2:30 pm and gives you a chance to meet some of their animals and to decide if you could offer a permanent or temporary home to one of them. See you there!

Calling all artists! Hot on the heels of a successful debut in 2010, ArtWalk DB is back in 2011 and better than ever! On Friday, May 6th DB Plaza and select D Deck restaurants will play host to an evening that showcases the talent of local artists while encouraging guests to discover new art, mingle with neighbours and raise money for a good cause. Enneagram Workshops: The Enneagram is a well-established system grounded in modern psychology and used all over the world. Simply put, the Enneagram describes nine distinct personality types, their strengths and challenges. It’s a powerful tool for understanding yourself and others better and enhancing your relationships with your family members, friends and work colleagues. Furthermore, it is comprehensive, yet practical and easy to understand.
The workshops are led by Carol Bagattini who is an internationally certified Enneagram practitioner (EPTP) with Enneagram Worldwide (Helen Palmer, U.S.A.). She has also studied with Hurley and Donson (Canada). Workshops are limited to 10 participants and run from 9h15 to 15h00, one day a week for 5 consecutive weeks. They are run here in Discovery Bay. Prana Yoga and KidzYoga: Due to popular demand and special requests, Prana Yoga has added two more KidzYoga In Schools classes. Starting Tuesday, February 15th we added a Primary Series (Year 1-6) class from 3:30-4:30 and a Secondary Series (Year 7-12) class from 4:30-5:30 at the Discovery College Drama Studio. Children from all schools are welcome to attend. The cost for the new classes from February 15 - April 12 (Except April 5) is $1,200. The cost is prorated based on when you join. We still have a few spaces available in the Primary Series class on Thursdays from 3:30-4:30 and the cost for the remainder of term is $1,500, but also will be prorated based on when you join.
