What's Been Happening in Year 2
Well what a busy and successful year we have had in Year 2!
We have been celebrating all the children’s achievements over the year during our Onwards and Upwards Ceremonies. This was a wonderful occasion to look back and reflect on everything that has been achieved over the year we have done so much!
In Maths, we have been continuing to look at ‘position and direction.’ We can now use directional language such as clockwise, anticlockwise, quarter turn, half turn etc. to give directions.
In Writing we have been looking at the diary recount text from Mrs Roxborough and have been investigating some new Writing Secrets that she used. We have been looking at apostrophes and the use of short sentences for effect. We are now ready to start innovating this text to write our own exciting recounts.
We have been enjoying getting stuck into our enquiry unit ‘The Times are Changing’ over the past few weeks. We have been exploring the concepts of ‘community, perspective and consequences.’ We are looking into the many changes that have happened in Discovery Bay or are currently happening and are starting to consider the different perspectives of these changes by different members of the community and their potential consequences.
In preparation for the Art Exhibition last Thursday, we have also been getting creative and have been creating some artwork based on the beach playground. This artwork linked to our ‘Times are Changing’ enquiry unit and was also inspired by the artist Keith Haring.
We are now preparing for the end of our busy year and are excited for our shared lunch and parties.
All the Year 2 Team would like to thank all the children for their hard work and enthusiasm this year and also thank all our parents for their continued support throughout the year. We wish you all a relaxing, Summer holiday!
