A week in the life of DBIS

Head of School

The beginning of a new school year is always an exciting time as we look forward to the challenges and opportunities ahead.

It was wonderful to welcome the children back to school this week, and I would like to extend a particularly warm welcome to our new students and their families. I’m sure you will soon feel that you are part of our supportive and happy community. It was also very encouraging to see students across the school embark upon a new term of learning with real enthusiasm. DBIS students are second to none, and I know they will impress with their determination, enthusiasm and commitment as the year progresses.

It has been a delight to see the reaction of both Primary and Secondary students to the renovated Globe Theatre and our new Discovery Lab. With a keen eye, I will be watching to see how students use the Discovery Lab to explore their interests and learn to use both physical and virtual tools in order to develop creative real world projects. The Lab will also provide both Primary and Secondary students with a flexible learning environment where an interdisciplinary and applied approach to Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) will be developed. I am confident that the students will not only revel in this exciting and original space but will also produce many innovative outcomes. I’m also confident that DBIS is one of only a handful of schools in Hong Kong with a STEAM hub designed so explicitly to help students develop the skills and attributes needed for work and life in the 21st Century. Best wishes for the weekend ahead.
