A week in the life of DBIS

This week has been different to the norm with some of our families impacted by the closure of the DB Marina and the announcement of my departure at the end of the school year. Please rest assured that the School will do everything within its control to support the students affected by the move. Additionally, DBIS is in a stable position and well set for further success. I am also confident that the School Council will spend a considerable amount of time and energy to ensure my successor will champion the School’s values, build upon its strengths and preserve the “DBIS way”.

Now that the term is well underway, I wanted to draw your attention to some important dates and events over the coming weeks as follows:

11 SeptemberSchool Council Meeting
12-13 SeptemberClive Leach’s Wellbeing Parent Forums
19 September Application deadline for Year 7
24-25 SeptemberSchool Closure
26 SeptemberPTSA Annual General Meeting (AGM)
3 October School Advisory Committee meeting

The sign-up for Clive’s forums is still available and I would encourage you to do so if you are free on either date using the following LINK.

We would also welcome as many parents as possible to attend the PTSA’s AGM as the Committee is in need of new members and volunteers. The PTSA plays a crucial role in leading social and community events at DBIS and is also responsible for generously funding many individual projects within the school. With this in mind, I wanted to thank Rosanna Sarma (PTSA Secretary) and Manon Castonguay (PTSA Treasurer) for their service to the PTSA Committee and the School more broadly over the last two years. Both Rosanna and Manon are stepping down this year from the Committee and their determination and commitment will be missed.

Additionally, the responsibility of advising me as Head of School regarding the School’s continued development rests with the School Advisory Committee (SAC). The term of office for the existing SAC is now coming to an end and I would encourage parents who might be interested in joining the SAC to contact me directly before September 24.

The SAC includes five parent volunteers, the Head of School, three DBIS staff members and an invited member of the School Council. The SAC meets monthly from 6 pm to 7 pm and I am tasked by the School Council to chair the meetings. SAC meetings are often fascinating and certainly help support me in leading the School. If you wish to find out more about the functions of the SAC, please contact me directly at or feel free to arrange a meeting with me via the school office.

Best wishes for the weekend ahead.
