A week in the life of DBIS

Little did we know that Clive Leach’s focus on developing resilience would be put to the test so dramatically over the course of this week. Despite the awful damage wrought by Typhoon Mangkhut it has been heartening to see the indomitable spirit of the Discovery Bay community and the people of Hong Kong shining through. The school’s outstanding team of amahs and general staff epitomised this approach on Monday as they arrived from Peng Chau soon after the T8 signal was lowered and tirelessly worked to ensure the school campuses were safe and ready for students to return. I know you will want to join me in expressing sincere thanks for the team’s hard work and unstinting commitment to the school community.

I also wanted to acknowledge the contribution made by students, staff and parents to the clean up taking place in and around the environs of Discovery Bay.  As I noted earlier this week, in adversity people are often galvanised, and their best qualities come to the fore. I’m hopeful that the community action seen this week will inspire and motivate DBIS students to contribute to society and to understand that through their efforts they can positively impact the lives of others.

Best wishes for the weekend ahead.
