What's Been Happening in Year 2
Year 2 have been working hard since the beginning of term on our Instruction writing and our Enquiry unit of ‘Times are Changing’.
Over the last 2 weeks we have been thinking about the plaza development and have used the proposal of the building of an ice rink to write instructions as a class for our fictitious builder Mr Hammer. The children will now write their own instructions on a building of their design as their ‘hot write’.
In Maths we have been focussing on Addition and Subtraction. The children have been using manipulatives in the classroom and also using known facts to aid their problem solving using bigger numbers. We have also begun our weekly times table challenge - focussing on the 10x, 5x and then 2x times tables. You can help your child by practising these at home.
The children have thoroughly enjoyed setting up and using our outside area during lunchtime play. They have been junk modelling, building amazing models with Lego and building dens with crates and material. If you have any junk modelling material, please give to your child’s teacher and if there is any Lego taking up space in your homes we would love to have it! Many thanks to those of you who have bought in things for this area already.
The children looked fabulous in their green clothes on Monday after walking to School for the start of our Sustainability week. They have had presentations in the Globe as well as writing a persuasive letter about the environmental changes they would like to see in Discovery Bay for this term’s Big Award for Writing.
Please don’t forget that payment for our fantastic outing to the Theatre in November should be paid by Friday 12th October. Please pass in a named envelope to your child’s teacher.
After a very busy half term we hope that you all enjoy the mid term break.
