Secondary Language News
It has been a very busy and exciting start for Chinese Department.
First we would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all the students again who achieved their YCT/HSK certificates this year - 30 students achieved YCT1-4 and 9 students achieved HSK2!
While IGCSE and AS/A Level classes are getting busy with their course study and exam preparation, Year 7, 8 and 9 students also started their new learning units with a great diversity of class activities. Here are some quick shots from their lessons:
Speed Reading Competitions:
Group Role Plays:
Having a “Speed Dating” to enhance listening and speaking skills:
Using ICT tools like Quizlet and Education Perfect to enhance their learning in class and also improve collaboration skills:
Apart from ensuring high quality teaching and learning in the classroom, another development goal for Secondary Chinese this year is to explore more opportunities for learning beyond the classroom. The first small step that we took is organising our first Chinese Book Exhibition and Sales with Joint Publishing Hong Kong. They brought us various reading resources for Chinese learners with different levels - from beginners to native speakers. We also took this great opportunity to enrich our Chinese library resources with them. We welcome all parents and students to check our new Chinese books out in the DBIS Library!
We have had a very busy start to the term and are looking forward to seeing students’ progress over the coming academic year.
