Year 9 News
We have enjoyed a great start to the term so far, with many of our students showing high levels of enthusiasm and commitment to their personal development.
This term has seen Jaik Patidar, Harrison Squires, Clive Tang, Jacob Borrelli, Noel Amate, Luca Ameresekere, Liam Henderson and Spencer Tsang make the school’s FOBISIA representative squad for the Under 15 Boys. Added to this we have Teniva Guinea, Savannah Floyd, Sofia Leach, Mia Lee, Clara Sweetman, Alice Ypersiel and Jade Haggarty successfully getting into the Under 15 FOBISIA Girls squad representing DBIS in Phuket, Thailand. This is quite the accomplishment, as usually these coveted places only go to Year 10 candidates. We congratulate and wish all of the team well with both their training and the upcoming competition.
In terms of other sports, our Under 14 Girls Football team have been performing well, winning 2/3s of their fixtures against tough opposition such as International College Hong Kong and Nord Anglia. We are looking forward to their next win (hopefully) against Christian Alliance International School on Wednesday and against AISHK on Thursday.
The Under 14 Boys Football team has had a tough season so far but they are looking to turn it around after their convincing 8-0 win against German Swiss International School. We look forward with keen anticipation to their upcoming match against Island School this Tuesday and their game against the Australian International School on Thursday.
This year’s Secondary School Swim Gala was an enormous success with a great turn out from Year 9. Nearly all students in the year group entered events and did their best to compete for house honours on the day. It was great to see our talented boys and girls competing and striving to beat their personal best times. In addition, it was superb to see competitors from the different House groups racing hard against one another as part of the ongoing Inter House Competition.
Finally, our talented thespians within the year group have been rehearsing tirelessly for the upcoming school production of ‘The Lord of the Flies’. Members of Year 9 involved in or starring in the production include Aoife McCarron, Summer Dubrowski, Hana-Matilde Sullivan, Paige van Beek, Lucy Divers, Sam Pearson, Benjamin Bechgaard-Lisse. We have a few words from the budding young actors:
Lucy Divers: “I am not sure how I will learn all of my lines, but I will keep working on it until opening night.”
Benjamin Bechgaard-Lisse: “It is great to get a chance to interact and work with students from so many different year groups.”
Aoife McCarron: “Rehearsals have been so much fun, it is really cool as we have been able to learn about and do lots of stage fighting with proper fight choreography.”
We look forward to updating you all with more Year 9 news over the course of the rest of term 1 and throughout the remainder of the academic year. We will be in touch again with all of the Year 9 news from their Week Without Walls adventures.
