U15 FOBISIA Friendly Games news
Last week saw 23 DBIS Students head over to Thanyapura Sports Hotel in Phuket for the U15 FOBISIA Friendly Games.
The first day is always a tough one and the standard of the swimming gala was exceptionally high. All DBIS students performed admirably and managed to finish 3rd. Savannah Floyd is deserving of a special mention; she swam brilliantly and came away with 4 Gold and 1 Silver medal. The performances of Mia Lee and Spencer Tsang are also more than worthy of a mention.
The athletics in the afternoon produced more fantastic individual performances and the positive atmosphere developing amongst the team was great to see. Zac Short deserves particular praise as he managed to achieve a Gold medal in the 1500m, 100m, 200m, Bronze in the Long Jump and was also the anchor leg for the Gold medal winning relay team.
Day two saw the Girl’s Football and Boy’s Basketball competitions. The boys fought well throughout the day and with only a couple of experienced basketball players in the squad they did really well to finish 4th. Luca Ameresekere was exceptional in his attitude and leadership on court. The Girls played some of their best football of the year and with 3 wins, 1 draw and a loss they ended up winning the Bronze medal. It is hard to highlight an individual as the whole team played superbly well but Issy Beech led the side admirably, remaining positive and giving her all.
The final day of competition was a reverse of Day 2. The Girls bounced back brilliantly from a difficult situation in their second game and fought hard to earn a very respectable 4th position in their Basketball competition. Kiki Pereira led the side brilliantly throughout the day. The boy’s performance in the football was a real highlight. They managed remain unbeaten and didn’t concede a goal all day and, deservedly taking home the Gold medal.
Overall it was an excellent Games and all DBIS students represented the school superbly. They showed a great team spirit and were outstanding in their attitude, performance and behaviour.
I would like to thank Mrs Smal, Mrs Chambers, Mr Van Den Bogaerde, Mr Harris, Mr Clarke, Mrs Brownlie and Mrs Basford for their support and effort during the preparation for the games and whilst in Phuket.
