What's Been Happening in Year 5
What a spectacular week it's been for everyone in Year 5.
We kicked off our new topic, 'Our Hong Kong', in style by enjoying a walking tour of Central Hong Kong looking at the old v new and seeing if we could identify changes over time. 100 children and numerous adults researched information in the IFC walkway, then headed up the escalators towards the Tai Kwun centre (the location of Hong Kong's old prison, magistrates and police HQ) and weaved through the town to look at the Man Mo monastery, St. Paul's Cathedral and the war memorial. It was a fantastically informative trip and an experience that will inform our topic brilliantly. Thank you to all the parents who supported this trip and offered their time to volunteer, it was most appreciated.
Later in the week, to complement our upcoming English unit on poetry, we also welcomed author Gail Clarke to DBIS. Gail spoke about the writing journey, sharing plenty of anecdotes and useful hints and tips about how to generate ideas, plan and write creatively.
With only three weeks remaining of the term we have plenty more to look forward to including rounding up our multiplication and division unit in Maths and concluding our fantastic class reader, The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind.
