Sports for All
On Wednesday 5 December, DBIS hosted our 2nd Annual Sports for All event for students with learning differences.
This year, we had students from West Island School, South Island School, Kennedy School, KGV School, Jockey Club Sarah Roe, Beacon Hill School, Bradbury School and our own DBIS students. The opening ceremony was introduced expertly by Thomas Smits followed by a dance performance by Keira Phoebus, Sam Harries, Sebastian Ritzl and Mathijs Van Buuren which was an absolute crowd pleaser. Everyone then participated in a Yoga warm up with Mrs Day before the rotation of activities commenced. Students were in groups of mixed schools to make new friends and they participated in parachute games, fun races, a drumming circle, an obstacle course and yoga meditation activities. A very fun and active packed day was enjoyed by all.
We would like to extend our thanks to the DBIS PTSA for the generous funding given to our Sports For All project. This enabled us to purchase all participants a souvenir t-shirt in the colour of their group. This really helped to visibly unite the children as they worked together. Congratulations to Kiera Phoebus for her fantastic t-shirt design.
Many thanks to the PE and Inclusion staff working in partnership to make the day such a resounding success. We will continue our project throughout the school year by hosting other events in terms 2 and 3. If you are interested in sponsoring our future Sports For All events, please contact us.
