School Sport at DBIS
The PE department are extremely committed to ensuring that every student at DBIS has the opportunity to take part in a high-quality PE curriculum that aims to:
Inspire all students, regardless of ability to be suitably challenged and develop competence and knowledge in a breadth of sport and physical activity through a variety of roles (performer, coach, official).
Provide an opportunity for students to understand how their engagement in PE and school sport can contribute to their social, mental and physical health and wellbeing.
Encourage students to develop a lifelong love of learning of sport through finding one physical activity that they can take part in and enjoy beyond school.
Develop the character of students as well as intellect through the promotion of key sporting values (link to growth mind-set and ATL) and model the high expectations through our practice.
Create opportunities for students to take part in competitive sport through lessons, extra-curricular, sporting fixtures and links to local clubs.
Develop ambition through an excellent careers education and support students to make informed decisions about their future in a sporting career (IGCSE PE, A Level PE, University or Apprenticeships Progression)
Communicate the aims and implementation of the PE curriculum, extra-curricular clubs and sporting fixtures with the community and celebrate the success of individuals through positive calls home and Sporting Awards and celebratory events within the School.
School Sport & Physical Education
DBIS is a member of the International Schools Sports Federation Hong Kong (ISSFHK), and our students participate in regular inter-school sports events. Competitive sports run over four seasons during the school year and include individual and team sports such as Swimming, Football, Basketball, Badminton, Track and Field, and Cross-country.
DBIS is also a member of the Federation of British International Schools in Asia (FOBISIA), which organises international sports trips yearly to the Under 13 and 15 Games. These trips are an excellent opportunity for our gifted athletes.

FIXTURES
At DBIS, We endeavour to make sure as many students as possible have the opportunity to take part in extra-curricular activities and can experience success through competitions with other schools. Fixtures run throughout the calendar year following the HKPSSA Sports Programme. Students will be selected based on various criteria to ensure that we have the best representatives for our school.
Activities & Trips
Each year, DBIS schedules a ‘Week Without Walls’ that sees students of all year groups participating in action, adventure, and service in Hong Kong and abroad. Over the years, our students have enjoyed trips to New Zealand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, and mainland China. These trips aim to build students’ confidence, enhance their global awareness, and help them develop essential skills, including teamwork, problem-solving, and independence.
Subject teachers also regularly lead day trips within Hong Kong to enrich the school’s academic programmes. Education outside of the classroom forms a crucial part of a learner’s experience, ensuring that curriculum content and concepts are authentic and that students get the opportunity to apply knowledge in the real world. Trips to museums, geographical sites, universities, and exhibitions unique to Hong Kong, such as Dialogue in the Dark, are just some of our students' experiences.
Other exciting annual school events include arts week, swimming galas, and sports day. DBIS students also have the opportunity to further enrich their learning by getting involved in international happenings through our affiliation with FOBISIA.
Sports Extracurricular Activities
DBIS Secondary School’s extracurricular sports programme is built on a philosophy of commitment, teamwork, and resilience. It offers something for everyone and many sporting opportunities. We have over 60 Sports ECA’s running throughout the academic year. The School Sports ECA’s are open to all students.
Our teams have an impressive history of competing at a high level, and our students have won local championships in both football and basketball. DBIS students have also achieved superb swimming, athletics, and cross-country results.
Service & Leadership
There are opportunities throughout the Secondary School to serve the community within the local Discovery Bay community and beyond. The school supports a number of charities, and students are instrumental in organising fundraising and awareness events.
At DBIS, students are encouraged to step into leadership roles, such as House Captain or Prefect, if they wish. Our Sixth Form Prefects are elected to support eight areas: leadership, internationalism, wellbeing, learning, resilience, communication, community, and creativity, which mirror the school’s student Learner Profile.
