“Perfectly framed by mountains and surrounded by the beautiful South China Sea, Discovery Bay, a serene resort development on the northeastern coast of Lantau Island, is a peaceful oasis away from hectic Hong Kong.”

Discovery Bay Virtual Tour

Take Our Virtual Tour

Welcome to our virtual tour of Discovery Bay. We hope it gives you a taste of what our great neighbourhood has to offer. Keep reading below for more information about this beautiful community.

Moving to Discovery Bay

Hong Kong is an extraordinary city in which to live and work, but the logistics of the move can be daunting, particularly with children.

Finding a place to live with schools that suit the whole family's needs is a priority. However, it isn't always easy to get an accurate picture of what is on offer ahead of your relocation.

Discovery Bay (DB) is a convenient 25-minute ferry ride from the bustling hub of Central. Moving around within the community itself is easy as there is a well-organised bus system. The number of cars is heavily restricted, but private golf carts are commonplace. DB is also popular with cyclists due to its quiet roads, cycle paths and numerous cycle trails.

Much of DB’s accommodation is low-rise, with green parks and playgrounds close to hand and easy access to the retail plazas.

With two plazas at opposite ends of the town, DB offers a generous array of neighbourhood amenities, supermarkets and clinics. Leisure facilities include two residents’ clubs with fitness centres and swimming pools. The community is also fortunate to have over 30 restaurants and cafes catering to all tastes and cuisines; many overlook the famous Discovery Bay beachfront.

The recent addition of an international-level indoor ice rink at the main plaza has further expanded the local entertainment options, and, with Disneyland and Hong Kong's largest outlet mall, CityGate, just a 15-minute bus ride away, there’s plenty to see and do on weekends. CityGate also features dozens of restaurants, a cinema, a food court and easy access to fresh-food markets.

Nestled between two bays and overlooked by the Lantau hills, part of the charm of DB is its relative isolation. Until the completion of the DB tunnel in 2000, the only way to access the town was by ferry. The tunnel now connects residents to the airport and MTR stations with a regular and reliable bus service.

DB’s proximity to the hills of Lantau and to the sea make it a popular place for families who enjoy water sports and hillwalking, and its relative seclusion makes it an easy and safe place to bring up children.

A strong community spirit also pervades with residents organising events ranging from an annual music festival to sports and charity races. As the oldest international school on Lantau Island, Discovery Bay International School often plays a central role in hosting these events or providing facilities.
